As I Understood, you are asking about Repair procedure,
To start with,
1. Repair process is initiated by creating a notification in transaction IW51. You will have a Function
Module which will trigger Repair order ( SD order) from IW51
2. Repair Order will be created from IW51, and this repair order has features of standard functions of normal order ( as OR0 with some additional features such as creating a inbound delivery, outbound delivery, service order, Normally in our OR, we create Outbound delivery and using Return order we create a Return delivery. In the standard configuration we have a repair procedure Under transaction code VORP.
where you will define how the repair process has to be handled
for example, once the repair order is created (RA document type), we have to receive the material from the customer which will be triggered by item category IRRE
one part is received into the repair plant, we will start the repair process , to initiate in the system another item category IRRP will trigger as separate line item
using IRRP a service order will trigger in back with some requirement class and requirement type settings
3. The reason of creating a service order is, as we are repairing the material sent by customer, we are not sure on how much man hours and spare components require to repair to, in order to capture the order on Time and material a service order is being created.
4. Once you do the repair, repair order will trigger with another item category IRAL which will intiate outbound delivery , which means the part is ready for outbound delivery from repair plant to customer site
5. After you do TECO to the service order ( a concept to complete service order), we have one more line item added in the repair order which is a billing item
