Meanwhile I tryed a putty connection, following:
Connecting to Your Linux Instance from Windows Using PuTTY - Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud
I replaced the public dns through public IP, since its empty in my case in the ec2 console:
I used root@52.28.3.79 and the converted ppk from the public key - pem I was offered to download after activation. Got a connection time out
